레이어미디어는 화면을 배우지 않고 쓰는 소프트웨어를 만듭니다. 이 글은 저희가 무엇을 만들고 있고, 왜 이런 방식을 택했는지에 대한 이야기입니다.

도구를 안 쓰게 되는 이유

소프트웨어를 도입했다가 두 달 만에 손을 놓은 경험, 한 번쯤 있으실 겁니다. 기능이 부족해서가 아닙니다. 오히려 너무 많아서입니다.

메뉴 구조를 익혀야 하고, 어느 화면에서 무엇을 하는지 매번 헷갈리고, 나 말고 다른 사람은 아무도 안 씁니다. 그러면 데이터가 반만 남습니다. 그리고 반만 남은 데이터는 없는 것보다 나쁩니다. 믿을 수가 없으니 결국 머릿속의 감으로 되돌아갑니다.

레이어미디어는 그 지점에서 시작했습니다. 기능을 더 넣는 대신 화면을 없애는 쪽을 택했습니다.

말하면 처리됩니다

메뉴를 찾아 들어가 입력 칸을 채우는 방식이 아닙니다. 하던 대로 한 줄 쓰면 됩니다.

“오늘 3반 김지호 결석”
“신상품 20개 상세페이지 만들어서 올려줘”
“이번 달 미납자 명단 뽑아줘”

이렇게 적으면 기록되고, 물어보면 답합니다. 교육이 필요 없습니다. 새로 온 직원도 첫날부터 씁니다. 저희가 만드는 모든 서비스가 이 구조를 공유합니다.

AI비서 for 워드프레스

워드프레스와 카페24 사이트를 관리자 화면에 들어가지 않고 운영합니다. 글 작성과 발행, 카테고리와 태그 정리, 이미지 업로드, 플러그인 설치, 댓글 관리, 그리고 카페24 상품 등록과 상세페이지 작성까지 대화로 처리합니다.

블로그는 워드프레스, 판매는 카페24로 나눠 쓰시는 경우가 많습니다. 같은 대화창에서 양쪽을 다룰 수 있습니다.

학원나침반

학원 원장과 강사를 위한 서비스입니다. 출결과 숙제, 시험 점수, 수업 참여도를 한 줄로 기록하고, 학부모에게 매주 학습현황을 알림톡으로 보냅니다. 상담과 회의는 녹음해 두면 텍스트로 정리되고, 재학 인원과 미납자, 강사별 집계는 물어보면 나옵니다.

이탈위험 감지가 특히 그렇습니다. 결석 증가와 상담 급증, 성적 하락 중 둘 이상이 겹치는 학생을 먼저 짚어줍니다. 이 세 신호는 각각 다른 사람 눈에 걸리기 때문에, 보통은 아무도 종합해서 보지 않습니다.

성적나침반

학부모와 학생을 위한 서비스입니다. 성적표를 사진으로 올리면 내용을 읽어서 기록으로 정리합니다. 여기에 시험 일정과 학습 기록이 쌓이면, 점수표로는 안 보이던 흐름이 보입니다. 계속 같은 단원에서만 무너지고 있었다는 것 같은 것들이요.

왜 이 조합인가

사이트 운영과 학원 관리, 자녀 학습 관리는 전혀 다른 일처럼 보입니다. 그런데 안을 들여다보면 같은 문제입니다.

정보는 이미 있는데 흩어져 있고, 그래서 아무도 전체를 못 보고 있다는 것. 저희가 만드는 도구는 그 흩어진 것을 한자리에 모으고, 물어보면 답하게 하는 일을 합니다.

학원나침반과 성적나침반이 짝인 것도 그래서입니다. 학원이 매주 보내는 데이터와 가정에 쌓인 기록이 맞춰지면 양쪽의 정보 격차가 줄어듭니다. 퇴원 상담에서 나오는 “저는 잘 다니고 있는 줄 알았어요”라는 말은 대개 그 격차에서 나옵니다.

요금은 크레딧 방식입니다

세 서비스 모두 크레딧을 미리 충전해 쓴 만큼 차감합니다. 안 쓰는 달에도 빠져나가는 월 구독이 아닙니다. 충전한 크레딧에는 사용 기한이 없고, 사용 이력이 전혀 없는 크레딧은 충전일로부터 7일 이내에 전액 환불됩니다.

만든 사람이 먼저 씁니다

레이어미디어 대표는 수학학원을 직접 운영하고 있습니다. 학원나침반은 팔기 전에 그 학원에서 먼저 몇 달을 굴려본 뒤 내놓았고, 지금도 매일 쓰고 있습니다.

그래서 기준이 하나입니다. 하루에 열 번 눌러도 안 짜증나는가. 시연에서 멋있어 보이는 기능보다 이게 먼저입니다.

Why tools get abandoned

Most people have adopted a piece of software and stopped using it within two months. Not because it lacked features, but because it had too many.

You have to learn the menu structure, you keep forgetting which screen does what, and nobody else on the team uses it. So only half the data ends up recorded. And half-recorded data is worse than none — you can’t trust it, so you fall back on instinct.

Layer Media started there. Instead of adding features, we chose to remove the screen.

You say it, it gets done

There is no menu to navigate and no form to fill in. You write one line, the way you already would.

“Kim Ji-ho absent today, class 3”
“Write detail pages for these 20 new products and publish them”

It gets recorded, and when you ask, it answers. No training required — a new hire uses it on day one. Every service we build shares this structure.

AI Assistant for WordPress

Run WordPress and Cafe24 sites without opening the admin screen. Writing and publishing posts, organising categories and tags, uploading images, installing plugins, managing comments, and registering Cafe24 products with their detail pages — all through conversation.

Many people run a blog on WordPress and sell on Cafe24. You can handle both from the same conversation.

AcademyCompass

For academy directors and instructors. Record attendance, homework, test scores, and class engagement in a single line, and send parents a weekly learning report via KakaoTalk. Counselling calls and staff meetings can be recorded and turned into organised text, and enrolment counts, unpaid tuition, and per-instructor figures come back when you ask.

Dropout risk detection is the clearest example. It flags students where two or more signals overlap — rising absences, a spike in counselling requests, falling grades. Each signal normally lands with a different person, so nobody puts them together.

GradeCompass

For parents and students. Upload a photo of a report card and its contents are read and turned into a record. As exam schedules and study logs accumulate, patterns emerge that a score table never shows — that the same unit keeps collapsing, for instance.

Why this combination

Running a website, managing an academy, and tracking a child’s studies look like entirely different jobs. Look closer and they’re the same problem.

The information already exists, but it’s scattered, so nobody sees the whole picture. Our tools gather what’s scattered and make it answerable.

That’s also why AcademyCompass and GradeCompass are a pair. When the data an academy sends each week lines up with the records kept at home, the information gap narrows from both sides. The line you hear at a withdrawal meeting — “I thought everything was going fine” — usually comes from that gap.

Credit-based pricing

All three services run on prepaid credit, deducted as you use it. It is not a monthly subscription that charges you in months you don’t use it. Credit never expires, and credit with no usage history is fully refundable within seven days of purchase.

We use it first

Layer Media’s founder runs a maths academy. AcademyCompass was used in that academy for several months before it went on sale, and it is still used there every day.

So there is one test: does it still not annoy you on the tenth use of the day? That comes before anything that looks impressive in a demo.
